Nigeria
Nigeria is supposedly the fourth fastest growing economy in the world. This is an assertion that was made last March. That Ghana is set to become the world’s fastest growing economy according to the World Bank pales Nigeria’s positioning and even from an organization whose job it is to know what countries are growing or not, Ghana’s is more reliable. As expected, the Nigerian government was quick to cash-in on the ranking. Without any active effort on its part, our government believed it had taken Nigeria above the walls of poverty and economic challenges. What was bad about that was the fact that the government did not tell us the other numbers that had more meaning and actually tallied with the realities on ground in Nigeria. - Tuesday 4 October 2011


Panafrica
Human beings are driven to improve their socio-economic circumstances. They utilise whatever resources of material and intellectual capital they have to address their condition of unlimited wants. They engage in economic transactions with fellow humans. Those who produce goods and services sell them to those who need them. A spontaneous order exists. Somalia - United States - International
Maritime piracy costs the global economy between $7 billion and $12 billion annually, and since January 2010 pirates working from ports in Somalia have received approximately $75 million to $85 million in ransom payments in what has become a seemingly increasingly lucrative profession in the failed state. The United States is working with other entities in the international community to help build governance, security and economic livelihoods throughout the horn of Africa country. - Friday 1 April 2011

Ethiopia and United Kingdom are soon to sign a Double Taxation Agreement (DTA) that aims to give further impetus to growing trade and investment relations between the two countries. - Tuesday 29 March 2011


Libya - International
Libyan rebels certain of victory over Muammar Gaddafi and his forces have promised to begin exporting oil in less than a week. The rebel representative assured the international community that the uprising would not further slow-down oil production. - Monday 28 March 2011


South africa - Zambia - Zimbabwe - International
Following South Africa’s decision to freeze all Gaddafi’s assets in accordance with UN Security Council resolution Zambia has sought clarification on whether the resolution would have any effect on massive investments undertaken by the embattled Libyan leader’s regime in the southern African country. Zimbabwe has remained silent. - Thursday 24 March 2011


South africa - Botswana
World over, particularly in Africa, diamond deposits have often been a source of bloody conflicts. However, Bostwana, a largely desert southern African nation endowed with huge diamond deposits, has been exemplary in its management and control of the precious mineral resource. Ethiopia - India
Ethiopia Agriculture Ministry, last month, rejected a petition to reconsider the lease of huge forestry lands to foreign companies. Whilst local environmentalists argue that the land lease would destroy large portions of forest lands and contribute to drought, officials from the Agriculture Ministry say otherwise. - Thursday 3 March 2011
