Fifa rankings reflect a team’s performance over a period of four years. Nigeria slipped to number six on the continent after an initial number one ranking before the African Cup of Nations. Ghana, meanwhile has moved to first place. Below are the top ten African teams.

The host of the African Nations Cup have been ranked on top of the African list in the latest ranking list released on Wednesday. After beating world number two, the Czech Republic, and number five, the United States during the world cup, Ghana showed its near flawlessness when it was only beaten by reigning champions, Egypt, in the just ended African Nations Cup. This serious team showed great determination when they won their match against Nigeria even when Kingston, an essential element, was suspended for a fault.

Ghana is now the first African country on fifa’s ranking list at number 14, the highest raking ever to be attained by the black stars. Cameroon follows in second place at number 17 despite having lost the final title to Egypt, who have won the African championship twice in a row. Although they moved up six places, Egypt is in fourth place, two places below Cameroon, who they beat twice in the African Nations Cup. The Ivory Coast remains at second place, the same rank before the 2008 Africa Nations Cup. Nigeria was ranked first.
