Hydrocarbon market opacity condemned by Oil Operators

Star Oil operators (the leader on Mauritanian and Malian markets) and Total have denounced the “conditions of opacity” in which M auritania’s oil product supply contract, for the April 2008 – April 2010 period, was awarded to Fal Oil Co Ltd company, it was disclosed on Friday.

Star Oil Mauritania and Total refused to sign a contract with the new operator, chosen by the supervisory commission for the selection procedure of the company in charge of supplying Mauritania with oil products and noted “several violations . ”

In addition to “irregularities” in the provisional tender procedure, the Director General of Star Oil Mauritania, Tijany Ben Housseynou, affirmed no legal and material administrative decision, making the contract tender real, has been taken by the ministerial department in charge of energy and notified protesting companies.

“We are determined to go to the extreme to defend our rights and interests,” he concluded.

Star Oil Mauritania and Total also wrote an open letter to the president of the republic.

Several oil operators protested after the award of the contract to Fal Oil Co Ltd for supplying Mauritania with hydrocarbons.

They denounced several breaches in the award procedure and contested the strategic capacity of the enterprise, chosen with risks of breaks, detrimental to the national economy in the coming months.
