AU promotes peace ahead of 16th African athletics meet

Towards the forthcoming 16th African athletics championship, the African Union (AU) and the Confederation of African Athletes (CAA), have jointly organised for Tuesday, an international symposium on the theme “Sport as a factor of peace and integration in Africa”, a communiqué of the PanAfrican organisation said.

Towards the forthcoming 16th African athletics championship, the African Union (AU) and the Confederation of African Athletes (CAA), have jointly organised for Tuesday, an international symposium on the theme “Sport as a factor of peace and integration in Africa”, a communiqué of the PanAfrican organisation said.

At the symposium, a panel of eminent African personalities and renowned athletes are going to exchange views on the “culture of peace and the dynamics of continental integration through sports” as well as “African athletes as a concrete example of African unity and integration.”

The symposium is organised by the department of social affairs of the African Union.

Forty six (46) member-states of the African Union are expected at the 16th African athletics championship that will be held here from 30 April to 4 May 2008.
