Nigerian newspapers Sunday hailed national team captain Nwankwo Kanu, after his 37th-minute goal helped his English Clubside Portsmouth to beat Cardiff City 1-0 in the English FA Cup final at Wembley, England. The victory was the first for Portsmouth in the FA in 69 years

“Kanu restores Portsmouth glory” was the headline in the Sunday Punch newspaper! “Kanu’s moment of glory” the Nation newspaper captions a picture of Kanu lifting the trophy, while the Guardian says ”English FA Cup: Kanu lifts Cup for the third time”

Most newspapers also splashed Kanu’s picture on their front or back pages.
Kanu, 31, celebrated the victory as if he has never won any silverware before. “This is the best moment of my life. I started the game and I won the Cup for Portsmouth. I have felt nothing like this. They call me ‘King’, I have to deliver and hopefully I did,” he said.

The victory adds another feather to the cap of Kanu, who has graced the World Cup, won Olympic gold for his country Nigeria, was twice voted African player of the year, lifted the Champions League, UEFA Cup, English and Dutch league titles and two previous FA Cups!
