Inconnu / Algeria

The female vocalist of French Toulouse-based band Monkomarok invented a music that could be defined as French-Algerian Fado. Her delicate, intimist lyrics describe a universe where the figure of the Algerian woman is omnipresent. Sharp, moving musical pictures – that conjure up Steeve Reich’s enchanting universe as much as Madredeus’ – support the blues of a warm, poignant voice that fills the space with magic. The band Dyaoule Pemba, with lead vocalist Moonlight Benjamin coming from Haïti, plays a music between world music, voodoo jazz and french or creole songs. It talks about happiness et sadness of Haïti. It tells the story of the first black democratic republic in the world.
