General William E. Ward, the head of the Regional Military Command of the United States for Africa (AFRICOM), said this weekend during a visit to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) that the country needs a professional army. According to him, the restructuring of the army and the police should be a high priority for the Congolese authorities, otherwise the country will always be vulnerable to outside attack.
