Reduced to 10 players in the first half, the Black Satellites proved themselves as the real masters as they suffered the assaults of the tireless Brazilians for two hours. They finally won the game when they locked heads with the South American football giants during a penalty shootout. This is the first FIFA World Cup win for any Under-20 team from the African continent.

The young Ghanaians are not likely to forget the 2009 under 20 World football tournament in Egypt. After superbly eliminating Hungary in the semifinals (3-2), the Black Satellites imposed themselves during the course of the game, as they faced the great Brazil, a huge favourite.

Reduced to 10 men in the 37 ‘minute, following the logical expulsion of Daniel Addo, Ghana fell victim to Brazilian pressure throughout the match, but never gave in and took their adversaries to the penalty shootout, winning by 4-3.

Drawing their strength from their captain, Andre Ayew — son of Abedi Pele, their star striker, Dominic Adiyiah, best player and top scorer of the tournament and their extraordinary goalkeeper, Agyei, the Black Satellites are ones to look out for in the near future and may even have some lessons for their big brothers, the Black Stars, who have already qualified for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Ghana has given Africa its first victory in the tournament after narrowly missing the coveted cup twice in 1993 and 2001. Nigeria has also been close to the mark twice, the first time in1989 and the second in 2005.
