Panafrica - International
The 45th summit of the African Development Bank (AfDB) that took place between May 27 to 29 in Côte d’Ivoire presented a rare opportunity for the continent’s main lender to triple its share capital. The increased capital should enable the continental financial institution to fund major infrastructure projects. Another positive piece of news revealed in a report on the sidelines of the summit showed that the continent has shown resilience in the face of the global economic crisis. - Tuesday 1 June 2010

Representatives from more than 100 countries are meeting in Kampala, Uganda to assess the achievements of the International Criminal Court (ICC), and push forward proposals for strengthening its rules. The existence of the International Criminal Court (ICC) has curtailed impunity and has broken new ground on victims’ rights in Africa, the United Nations has stated. - Tuesday 1 June 2010

As news came in of the mounting death toll from the Israeli storming a humanitarian flotilla heading for Gaza, the British actor and comedian David Schneider, wrote on Twitter. "As a Jew, Israel’s like a close family member who’s hooked on heroin and you just don’t know what to do with them any more."
