Gambian National soccer team, the Scorpions, stung their Algerian counterpart 1-0 in their group World Cup/African Nations cup qualifying match here Saturday.

Gambia’s winner was scored in the 18th minute from the penalty spot by Ousman Ja llow after teammate Mustapha Jarjur was brought down in the box.

PANA reports that although the Gambians, comprising only two home-based players and the rest foreign-based, dominated play they could not increase the tally.

The Gambians, who lead the their group with five points, will travel to Algeria Wednesday for the return leg match. Senegal are second in the group with four points.
