The Iranian government has agreed to use its nuclear technology to help Nigeria increase its electricity generation.

Tijjani Kaura, a senior Nigerian foreign ministry official has been quick to state amidst speculations, that the technology is not intended for any military use. But as details on the agreement were not announced it is still unclear what technology Iran would be providing to Nigeria.

The contract was announced after a four-day meeting between Iranian and Nigerian officials in the federal capital city of Abuja. President Umaru Yar’Adua said that improving Nigeria’s power supply is one of his main priorities.

Iran even while under sanctions for defying United Nations Security Council demands to halt uranium enrichment still insists that its nuclear programme is peaceful and says it has a right to carry on its uranium enrichment.
