According to the latest World Bank report on ‘Doing Business’, Liberia’s Net income has been described as modest but encouraging.

President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf welcomed the development by Liberia saying it is an indication of the progress the country continues to make towards improving its business environment.

She was quick to recognize though that there are many challenges which must be conquered in order to improve the overall business atmosphere in Liberia.

She also showered praises on all government agencies, headed by the National Investment Commission for the key roles played in providing the leadership to improve the business atmosphere in Liberia. She begged them to continue to exercise all efforts to make sure Liberia continues to record better performance in doing business.

According to reports, the survey released Wednesday by the World Bank ‘Doing Business’ Report for 2009, showed that Liberia was listed 157, out of 181 countries surveyed. The report also shows Liberia heading the list of countries in Africa in the adoption of reforms. The country adopted 21 reform measures during the period of the World Bank survey.

Liberia also showed improvement in the number of days it takes to register a business. According to the survey it takes only 27-days to register a business in Liberia, a reduction time from 99-days; something National Investment Commission Chairman, Dr. Richard Tolbert described as a tremendous improvement in one of the critical indicators for doing business.

The 2009 World Bank survey ranked 181 countries across the world from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe.
