Ugandan researchers awarded for agricultural contribution

The New African Women in Agricultural Research and Development Programme has awarded eight Ugandan female researchers with the outstanding agricultural award for their contribution to the sector.

The eight Ugandans were chosen among the 60 African women scientists who have received the exceptional Award from more than 900 candidates in nine African countries which represented less than 10% of the applicant pool..

The Award designed to raise the visibility of women in agricultural research and to enhance the careers of female agricultural scientists in Africa was awarded to Dr. Sarah Mubiru and Pamela Paparu from the National Agricultural Research Organisation, Dr. Florence Birungi Kyazze and Sylvia Wanzala from Makerere University.

Others are Margaret Aanyu and Rose Komugisha Basiita from the National Fisheries Resources Research Institute, Rosemarita Birungi Mukwaya, from Agency for Inter-regional Development and Joy Samantha from Bongyereire, Africa 2000 Network
