French Ligue One side FC Lorient has offered Zambian footballer Jonas Sakuwaha a one year contract with a 3,000 euro monthly salary. Sakuwaha, who is currently a Zesco United player rejected a more attractive offer (almost twice the French offer) from Sudanese club El Merreikh in favour of the French club.
Reports from Lusaka today say Zesco club secretary Justin Mumba disclosed the offer on Tuesday that Sakuwaha’s one year deal would be flexible. “After one appearance, if he makes a grade to make it in the match then his salary will go up but the entry fee is 3000 euro,” Mumba is quoted saying.
Sakuwaha, last week is said to have rejected the US$2,000 which FC Lorient had offered. Mumba said FC Lorient will pay Zesco 50,000 euros (about K320 million) as transfer fee.
“The transfer fee is just for one year, if they have to renew his contract then the transfer fee will be re-negotiated,” he said. “We accepted that because we didn’t want to stand in the player’s way” he said.
Mumba said Sakuwaha’s contract had no signing-on fee with the club but the agent has agreed to pay the striker US$10,000. “The agent has agreed to pay him the signing-on fee,” he said.
Sakuwaha, who is currently in France with the Zambian national team’s training camp ahead of their September 6 World/Africa Cup qualifiers against Algeria in Blida, will undergo medicals.
Mumba said Sakuwaha had to make a decision between going to Sudan or France after he reportedly rejected a US$6,000 monthly salary offer from Sudanese side El Merreikh.
“They [El-Merreikh] offered Jonas US$6,000 and signing fee of US$20,000 and of course some bonuses. Jonas had to make a decision at the two offers and after he consulted, he chose to go to France,” he said.
Sakuwaha’s conditions at FC Lorient are said to include a house and the club will also pay his water and electricity among other bonuses.
