WILMINGTON, Del., Oct. 26, 2012 – The addition of a pilot-scale, nine-layer blown film line at DuPont Packaging & Industrial Polymers’ application development laboratory in Wilmington expands its ability to help packaging customers bring innovation to market quickly and cost effectively.

“The ability to work with customers on new ideas and test those ideas is an essential part of the development cycle and can help ensure new packaging structures are optimized for performance, cost-effectiveness and sustainability,” said Kurt Adams, vice president of innovation and technology, DuPont Packaging & Industrial Polymers. “This investment supports our global network of development laboratories in China, Brazil, Switzerland, India, Japan and Canada. “

The new line is designed to help customers develop new multilayer packaging structures quickly
and cost effectively using less material in the testing phase. DuPont sealants and tie-layer materials play a critical function in multilayer packaging structures. Supporting packaging development programs with efficient testing equipment helps customers design structures in a way that optimizes the balance between performance and cost.

Technical Capabilities Headline PackExpo
DuPont Packaging, recognized as the leader in material-science-based technical expertise in a 2011 global on-line survey of more than 500 packaging professionals, is highlighting application-development capabilities at Pack Expo, Oct. 28. The event in South Hall Room 501A highlights cost-effective solutions, global technical capabilities and invites collaboration with DuPont technical experts at interactive ‘Innovation Hubs.’

DuPont Packaging supports development programs through application-focused polymer development, packaging structure optimization and end-use testing. For example:

Polymer development and compounding capabilities deliver flexibility in the design and optimization of packaging structures;
in-house processing capabilities – enhanced with the new nine-layer blown film line – help balance the performance/cost equation; and
online tools help select sealant and tie layers.
Drawing from an extensive mix of adhesives, sealants, modifiers and peelable-lidding resins, DuPont Packaging & Industrial Polymers works with customers around the world on packaging initiatives that help protect the product, environment, improve shelf appeal, convenience and reduce cost in the food, cosmetics, medical products and other consumer goods and industrial packaging industries.
