Veterans of Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle have come out boldly to declare that President Mugabe is a “gift from God” and would rally behind him till eternity.

A brief statement released today by the militant Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association read that there is currently no vacancy at State House and would support the veteran leader till eternity.

“As war veterans, we are on the record of saying there is no vacancy on the post of the President and First Secretary of the party. We are happy that our able and God given leader Cde Robert Mugabe was overwhelmingly nominated by all the provinces and we will support him for ever and ever,” the statement reads.

They also said that Mugabe is a “tried and tested, brave, hardworking and courageous leader.”

The war veterans were at the forefront of farm invasions in the late 1990s and parceled among themselves prime farming areas.

Two weeks ago Zanu-PF provinces nominated Mugabe as President and First Secretary of the party.

Just last week Afrik-news.com revealed that Mugabe’s Zanu PF is working on plans of making him chairman of the proposed Supreme Politburo Council.

Last year at the height of the presidential elections Mugabe, a Catholic, said only God would remove him from power.

He cited Romans Chapter 13 in the Bible to make his point that he was appointed President by God and only God would remove him from office.

“Only God who appointed me will remove me (…) not the MDC, not the British (…) Even Romans 13 says leaders are appointed by God. I am an image of God who appointed me to my current position” he is quoted saying.
