Part 5
Ethiopia does not only share a long border with the Sudan (1600 kms in length) but also the Blue Nile, the lifeline of both Sudan and Egypt. And despite the Sudan’s historical and strategic links with Ethiopia the two countries have since time immemorial walked the tight rope between security and strategic alliances in a Horn of Africa region bereft of cohesion. The fifth in our series of articles about South Sudan and Abyei’s independence referenda studies Ethiopia’s position vis-à-vis the North and the South.

Sudan — A nation divided: Where does Ethiopia stand? -
There is an Ethiopian saying that goes, "when you dig a trap, make it not too deep because you yourself might fall in" As I see it here the same applies here, Sudan supported rebels of Nothern Ethiopia then, when Ethiopia broke into two, it was even more complex for Sudan itself to cope with these two separate states, one was bound to be it's ennemy... Sudan — A nation divided: Where does Ethiopia stand? -
This is an excellent article, Ethiopia must assure South Sudan becomes free and Sudan and Somalia both continue to be divided and destabalized in order to weaken Egyptian proxies in the region. The next step is to organize a nubian rebellion in south Egypt and fuel discontent in Egypt to the point of a civil war. That's the next step. - Friday 24 December 2010 - 17:04
