The chief coach of the Black Stars of Ghana, Claude Le Roy, may face sanctions from the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) if he is found guilty of misconduct.

Le Roy has been invited to appear before the Disciplinary Committee of CAF to answer charges of misconduct.

A GFA source said on Wedenesday that a letter dated 29 January signed by Mr Raymond Hack, Chairman of CAF Disciplinary Code, accusing the Frenchman of going against Article 132 of CAF Disciplinary Code during the Group A match against Morocco at the Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra had been lodged at the secretariat.

According to the letter, Coach Le Roy was alleged to have said: “The General Coordinator’s reason for not watering the pitch in our game was because he was a Muslim like them (the Moroccan team).”

Article 132 states: “Anyone who publicly disparages, discriminates against or denigrates someone in a defamatory manner on account of race, colour, language, religion or ethnic origin, or perpetrates any other racist and/or contemptuous act, will be subject to match suspension for at least five matches at every level.

“Furthermore, a stadium ban and a fine of at least three thousand US dollars will be imposed on the perpetrator.

“If the perpetrator is an official, the fine will be at least five thousand US dollars.”

Coach Le Roy has been given 24 hours to respond to the allegation to enable the Committee to determine whether to press for sanctions or not.
