The euphoria that greeted Cameroon’s lone-goal win over host Ghana Black Stars literarily went into the winds when most players and officials watched as the Pharaohs of Egypt made the African nations cup tournament fa v ourites Cote d’Ivoire look too ordinary in the late semi-final match at the Kumasi Stadium Thursday.
While most member of the team would prefer another clash against Egypt as an o pportunity for a revenge and considering the calibre of players in the Elephants ’ fold, the manner with which the defending champions, Egypt, thrashed their oppo n ent was the talking point late in the night at team’s hotel camp in Accra.
However, African legend and Cameroon soccer ambassador, Roger Milla, has called on the Lions’ technical crew to take note of the Egyptians’ courage and technical depth above other participants in the competition.
“No doubt, I look forward to a re-match against Egypt but from what I have seen of the team we must give it to them. They are the best technical side in this tournament,” Milla said.
“They seem to be playing as if there is no force in them but they score all the goals with mass play in the middle. They are a high-scoring side with the simplest style of play and playing against a team you don’t know who to mark out is like holding the gun to shoot down the ghost,” said the Cameroonian.
“While I appreciate the fact that the Lions are back to their full strength and ready to devour any opposition, the bench must find an immediate solution to break the Egyptians in the middle,” Milla, who last won the Nations cup with Cameroon in 1988 in Morocco, contended.
