Three members of Nigeria’s ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) died and seven others were seriously injured Monday, following a road accident which occurred as they celebrated the victory of Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala (PDP) at the South-west Oyo state election petition tribunal in the state capital, Ibadan.

Apparently overjoyed at the court ruling affirming the Governor’s election in the 14 April 2007 polls, some PDP supporters packed themselves into a pick-up truck, and the driver sped away from the court premises in celebration.

A few minutes later, the vehicle rammed into a concrete divider along the road and rolled over several times, leaving three dead on the spot.

The injured, including one of the Governor’s aides, identified as Femi Oladapo, are being treated at the University College Hospital in the city. Panapress.
