Duffy’s first LP Rockferry has topped UK charts obtaining positive reviews that have won her a comparison with Dusty Springfield herself considered one of the best soul singers of all time by many including soul queen Aretha Franklin.
Duffy’s incredible talent and voice have resounded through the great contemporary soul scene in such a smooth and sophisticated manner that she has been compared with soul legend Dusty Springfield based on her performance on her first album: Rockferry.
However the 23 year old Welsh singer has not only grabbed the classic soul public’s attention as her album has enjoyed its rightful place on top of UK charts this week. The album was released on March 3rd 2008 in the UK and should be released in May 2008 in the US.
The comparison with Dusty Springfield may be easy when you consider that blue eyed blond soul singers aren’t that common.
However the fact that Duffy’s voice has been compared to the one called the “White Queen of Soul” is quite important as she herself was admired and respected by several of the most important artists of this originaly black genre of music including Aretha Franklin.
According to her Official Site Duffy will start a tour on May with one gig in New York before touring Europe where several of her venues are already sold-out.
