If the poll conducted by FIFA on its website is anything to go by, Nigeria may just pick either the silver or bronze medal as the gold is already tipped for Brazil.

Gold medal in the Olympics is the only global honour that has eluded Brazil who has won the World Cup and all other age-graded competitions.

As at Sunday morning, the day after the four semi finalists emerged, 39.96 per cent participants in the poll tipped Brazil as the team that has played most attractive football so far in the men’s Olympic football tournament.

Next to Brazil are the Argentines who had 27.13 per cent. Both Brazil and Argentina will meet on Tuesday in an all-South American semi finals encounter.

Nigeria ranks third with 15.54 per cent of the votes conducted for people in four languages of English, French, German and Spanish. Most of those who voted for Nigeria logged onto the English language site of FIFA.com.

Among the Dutch speaking respondents, Nigeria ranked fifth with 6.18 per cent of votes cast. They gave Brazil 42.24 per cent of their votes to rank the country first.

In the reckoning of the Dutch speaking people, Argentina ranked second with 24.3 4 per cent, while Italy is third, Cote d’Ivoire fourth, Nigeria fifth and Cameroon sixth. Panapress.
