The early elimination of Nigeria’s national badminton champion Grace Daniel at the ongoing Beijing Olympics has been blamed on ”overweight”.
“The player arrived five days ahead of me and took on more weight than she could cope with,” coach Samson Egbeyemi said here.
Daniel does not agree with her coach, instead saying she lost so early due to nervousness.
All the same, the coach expressed disappointed at Daniel’s performance, especially for losing to an opponent she had beaten in previous competitions.
Nigeria’s performance at the games so far has been attracting a lot of criticism, as the country is yet to get on to the medals table.
Nigerian boxers, athletes and weightlifters, who have reaped medals in their sports in the past, have so far disappointed.
