The team of doctors treating Zambia’s ailing President Levy Mwanawasa in Paris, France, have described his condition as serious, Vice President Rupiah Banda disclosed in a statement Monday.

The team of doctors treating Zambia’s ailing President Levy Mwanawasa in Paris, France, have described his condition as serious, Vice President Rupiah Banda disclosed in a statement issued Monday.

Banda explained that President Mwanawasa’s condition suddenly changed Sunday night and required urgent intervention, which was conducted Monday.

“The Team of doctors have reported that the intervention was successful but described the condition of His Excellency the President as serious,” Banda said.

“The Nation will be informed in due course on future developments on the condition of His Excellency the President.”

President Mwanawasa suffered a stroke 29 June while in Egypt attending the Africa Union summit and was evacuated to Percy Military Hospital in Paris where he is still admitted.
