Questions are been asked as Nigerians await the return of their President, Umaru Yar’Adua, from his supposed two-week trip to Saudi Arabia. His delayed arrival has created a stir

The Presidential Villa, the official residence and office of the President, remained quiet yesterday and there was nothing suggestive of any arrangement for the President’s return.

The president was expected to leave the Saudi city of Jeddah wednesday night and arrive at Abuja early the next morning. According to reports, it was hinted in a newspaper interview from Jeddah that his return to Nigeria had been scheduled on Monday.

Following increasing public anxiety over the President’s trip especially reports that he was receiving treatment in a Saudi hospital, the Federal Government twice last week issued statements, saying all was well with him.

While there has been no official report on the delay, officials who spoke to reporters about on the issue asked for anonymity. Most of them said they were in the dark about the President’s trip.

Yar’Adua’s failure to return from Saudi Arabia last week as planned, a scheduled official trip to Brazil was cancelled by the Foreign Affairs Minister who said ‘it was only rescheduled following a development that needed our immediate attention.’
