FESPACO award winner for best film “Ezra” screening in Dakar

The movie “Ezra”, directed by Nigerian Newton Aduaka, will be shown at the French Institute Leopold Sédar Senghor in Dakar, Senegal, on 31 October and 5 November, according to a statement issued by the institute.

“Ezra”, which was released in June 2008, is a documentary on the life of child-soldiers in Africa.

It tells the story a child-soldier against a background of the civil war in Sierra Leone in the early 90s.

In the film, Aduaka exposed the consequences of the war on children and on the whole population, insisting on the necessity of recalling the past to understand the present and better predict the future.

In 2007, the film won the award “Etalon d’or de Yennenga”, the highest category at the African film Festival in (FESPACO) in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

”Ezra” is the first feature film to be directed by the France-based, 31-year-old Aduaka, himself a child soldier during the secessionist Biafran war in Nigeria.
