Somalia: CPJ condemns shooting of Puntland presenter

Comittee to Protect Journalists issued the following statement after the shooting by unknown gunmen on Thursday of Abdikheyr Mohammed Jama, a presenter of Radio Galkayo in Somalia’s northeastern semi-autonomous region of Puntland. Jama was critically wounded.

“We condemn this brutal attack which underscores the dangers faced by Somali journalists,” said CPJ’s executive director, Joel Simon. “Puntland authorities must thoroughly investigate the shooting which is part of pattern of attacks and harassment against media workers.”
