
Former Congolese Prime Minister Bernard Kolelas has published a book on initiatory rites in Bantu society, an ethnic group present in several countries of central Africa. The 150-page book, published in Paris, France, explains in nine chapters, circum cision as a mandatory rite for Bantu adolescents to enter the world of adults. According to the foreword, “initiatory rites in Bantu society help understand the cultural basics of that traditional group through its value transmission system .”Using his own experience, Kolelas advocates traditional education and initiation systems in African societies.
