One of Nigeria’s fastest growing airlines, Arik Air, will operate its inaugural flight to Accra, Ghana, Friday evening, joining a growing list of Nigerian airlines now plying the route, airline Spokesman Gbemiga Ogunleye told PANA here. The flight will take off from the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos at about 6pm local time, he said. Ogunleye said the airline would subsequently fly daily to Ghana, using one of its newly-acquired brand new aircraft. In a statement earlier, the airline’s Managing Director Micheal McTighe, said: ”Our aim is to promote economic and social integration in Africa and, more importantly, promote African brotherhood. ”This new route will no doubt attract trade, tourism and development between Nigeria and Ghana,” he added. He said Arik Air would use the Ghana route to launch itself into the West African and the African route, with an ambitious plan of making 40 daily flights to different locations across the country. Apart from Arik, Nigeria’s national flag carrier, Virgin Nigeria; Aero Contractor and Bellview are among Nigerian airlines that currently ply the Ghana route.
