CAN 2008: Top scorer battle in full swing
The contest for the top scorer award at the ongoing Af rica Cup of Nations in Ghana is getting keener, with four players now tied on three goals apiece, eight on two goals each and 30 on one goal each.
Samuel Eto’o of Cameroon, Hosni Abd Rabou of Egypt, Manucho of Angola and Allo udi Soufiane of Morocco are on top with three goals each, but the Moroccan may have dropped out of contention after his team failed to go past the first round.
Results so far show that Cameroon, defending champion Egypt and Angola are on track for the next round, meaning Eto’o, Rabou and Manucho still have a chance to raise their goal tallies.
Close on the heels of the three players are Sulley Muntari of Ghana; Joseph De sire Job of Cameroon; Mohamed Zidan and Mohammed Aboutrike of Egypt; Pascal Feindouno of Guinea, Felix Katonga of Zambia, Dos Santos of Tunisia and Guilbert Brendall of Namibia.
Some 30 players are also lurking not too far behind on one goal apiece.
At this stage of the competition, more goals (58) have been scored at Ghana 20 08 than at the past three editions of the competition, raising hopes that the tournament could break the recent goal scoring record.
Eto’o was the top scorer at the last Nations Cup in Egypt, netting a total of fi ve goals.
