Suspected militants attack boat building firm in Nigeria, wound one
Lagos, Nigeria – Gunmen suspected to be militants attacked a boat build ing company, Almarine, at its base in the Borokiri area of the oil city of Port Harcourt overnight Tuesday, wounding one person and taking away some of the equipment at the base, police said.
The attackers came in boats through the waterside, firing high-calibre weapons and exploding dynamites to scare residents and security agents away.
The gunmen escaped when soldiers keeping the peace in the city were drafted to confront them.
Police spokesperson Ireju Barasua said it was a suspected armed robbery, though militants have been active in the area in recent times.
Militants operating in the restive oil region have recently increased their attacks, as consultations between them and the government seemed to have failed.
But the government has also blamed some of the attacks on criminal groups operating in the region. Panapress.
