
Audit reports have revealed unjustified expenses running into several million dollars and 1,300 ghost names on the civil service pay roll in Guinea between 2006 and the first quarter of 2007, a communiqué of a council of ministers meeting held on Wednesday under the leadership of the Prime Minister, Lansana Kouyaté, said in Conakry. The council, which reviewed the audit reports presented by the minister in charge of economic and financial control, ethics and transparency, Saidou Diallo, also talked of a deficit of over 200 billion Guinean francs released from the state funds in the form of expenses “which are neither justified nor proven”. The report also spoke of “the illegal occupation of 169 public buildings and several plots, as well as the disappearance of 411 vehicles”. The audits involved 27 out of 29 departments. The reports on the ministries of the economy, interior and security are not yet completed.
