The coach of Morocco’s national soccer team, Frenchman Henri Michel, was dismissed on Thursday after the early elimination of the Atlas Lions from the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Ghana. The Moroccan Royal Football Association (FRMF) said the coach was fired because of “lack of satisfactory results.” It said the decision was taken “after careful analysis of the situation, in the light of the latest developments and in the interest of the national team and the goals the federal bureau set itself for the development of national football”. The Moroccan squad was eliminated in the first round of the CAN. They beat Namibia 5-1 but lost 2-3 to Guinea and 0-2 to Ghana. Henri Michel was appointed coach of the Moroccan team in September 2007 for the second time after coaching the Atlas Lions 1996 and 2000.
