Over 800 protesters under the banner of “Women of Zimbabwe Arise (WOZA)” on Tuesday took to the streets of Bulawayo singing and dishing out red roses and Valentine cards to passers-by and motorists, the leader of the group, Mrs Jenni Williams said in a press communique received in Dakar. According to Mrs Williams, the protest was part of WOZA’s sixth Valentine Campaign. “The aim of the peaceful protest was to encourage Zimbabweans to stand up for their children in these times of extreme hardship and as an election looms,” the communique said. The rights-based group was formed in 2003 amidst severe political violence to demonstrate love and courage to all Zimbabweans. Still, “in 2008 this motivation is equally relevant,” the communique said.
