Nigerian Army Spokesman, Brig.-Gen Solomon Giwa-Amu, has died in a road accident, PANA has learnt. The accident occurred Monday (today) morning as Giwa-Amu was travelling along the highway linking the capital city of Abuja with the northern city of Kaduna, on his way to the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC) in Jaji to deliver a lecture. Before his appointment as Army Spokesman, Brig.- Gen Giwa-Amu, 48, was Nigeria’s Defence Adviser at the country’s mission to the UN in New York. Giwa-Amu, who also served as the Aide De Camp (ADC) to former President Olusegun Obasanjo from 1999 to 2003, was recently promoted to the rank of a one-star General. The late Spokesman was called to the bar in 1989, after bagging a degree in law from the University of Benin in the country’s Mid-West. He also had a Masters degree in Strategic Studies from the United States War College and served in many missions, including the UN Protection Force in the former Yugoslavia.
