Madagascar: 29 killed 70,000 homeless

At least 29 people were killed while about 70,000 were made homeless after a violent cyclone, Ivan, –with winds up to 230 kms per hour– swept through Madagascar this week. Another cyclone, fame, killed 13 people last month. One of the worst places hit is the rice producing area of Alaotra Mangoro, where at least 19 of the 29 were killed, leaving 15,000 hectares of rice filds flooded. Mail&Guardian
