African insurers meet in Bamako

The 32nd general assembly of the Federation of African National Insurance Companies (FANAF) opened here Monday with 500 participants from Africa and India in attendance, panapress reported. The general assembly, with the theme “What new projects for the African insurance?”, will discuss risk prevention in people insurance, risk management and the financial consolidation of insurance companies, among others. Insurers will also discuss the contribution of the regional single market on the economic development of insurance as well as the Economic Partnership Agreements between the EU and ACP countries. Also, a new board will be elected at the end of the assembly to replace the current one, whose tenure has expired. At the opening of the forum, Malian Economy, Industry and Trade Minister, Ba Fatoumata Néné Sy, urged African insurers to maintain their efforts to sanitise the sector. FANAF is a huge market with a FCFA750 billion turnover.
