Workers of the National Meteorological and Geophysical Institute (INMG) of Cape Verde on Wednesday began a 48-hour strike to press demands for the payment of their holiday allowances, promotion and advancement in their career as well as a productivity bonus for the year 2007. This strike, which might endanger air and sea navigation, comes in the wake of the failure of negotiations on the definition of minimum services reported to have taken place Monday in Praia. The INMG Management rejected the claim concerning the productivity bonus for 2007, saying it envisages discussions in October on new regulations for 2008. The workers declared that they would not renounce the payment of last year’s productivity bonus. Panapress.
