At least 34 Rwandan policemen have been sacked for “indiscipline, delinquency and corruption”, Rwandan police spokesman Willy Marcel Higiro told reporters on Thursday. “Most of these policemen were sacked for serious violation of human rights, theft, corruption and drug-trafficking,” said Inspector Higiro. “We have adopted the zero tolerance against acts of corruption within the Rwandan police,” he added. In its latest report issued in 2007, the global corruption watchdog Transparency International had rated Rwanda among the most corrupt countries in the world despite strong denials by Rwandan officials.
