Local elections in Cape Verde have been fixed for 18 May, Prime Minister José Maria Neves announced on Wednesday in Praia. Speaking at the end of a meeting with the leaders of the parliamentary opposition, he said the date was jointly set by the government and opposition parties – Movement for Democracy (MPD) and Independent and Democratic Cape Verdian Union (UCID).The Prime minister and opposition leaders also discussed the ongoing voters’ registration exercise which started at the end of December and is to end on 4 March . The government and the two opposition parties expressed satisfaction over the sm ooth voters’ registration. The ruling African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde, MPD and UCID have s aid they would take part in local elections. Panapress.
