Burundian security forces made an arms seizure Friday in Bujumbura. Among the arms seized were; 34 fire arms including Kalachnikovs, 10 grenades, more than 300 armunitions of various sorts and military uniforms, indicated a police source. The operation took place in a residential area in the Burundian capital under a population disarmament programme.The police has called on the population to surrender their arms promising them impunity. According to a recent investigation conducted by a Swiss organisation and the national human rights league (ITEKA), more than 100.000 Burundian homes possess fire arms. These arms have often been used to settle disputes and commit crimes. Panapress.
