Cameroon : Gov’t closes down a private radio station

The cameroonian government ordered, Thursday, the closure of a private radio station “Magic FM” and the seizure of its equipment due to unfavourable comments made by listeners during a call-in programme, indicated an official source in Yaoundé. The comments made by the callers focused on the crises that shook the country, following the violent urban transport strike the shook the country. It also talked about president Paul Biya’s attempt to change the constitution to allow him run for a third term in office. “Magic FM” is the third media house closed by the government in a week. “Equinoxe” a television station and its affiliated radio station have had their licences suspended.
