
Two Nigerian Army Generals and five other senior officers are currently being court martialled for misappropriation of funds, military sources said Thursday. The officers include the Director of Defence Information, Brig.-Gen Mohammed Yusuf; Brig-Gen O.A.C Ariahu formerly of the Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA). Others are former Army Spokesman, Col. Ayo Olaniyan; Commandant of the Nigeria Military School, Col. G.J. Udi; Lt.Col. J.O. Fakolujo; Maj. P.A. Janka and Warrant officer Ado Mohammed. The five-member panel, headed by Maj-Gen. G. G. Umo of Defence Headquarters and charged with trying the officers, were inaugurated at the Nigerian Army Headquarters in the capital city of Abuja Tuesday. Three weeks ago, another army panel sitting in the northern city of Kaduna commenced the trial of five senior army officers and 10 others for the alleged sale of 6,000 assorted rifles and ammunition to militants in the Niger Delta.
