Some 28 subsaharan migrants were rescued, Wednesday, by the Royal Moroccan Marin, off the coast of Oued Eddahab, in Western Sahara. The rescue operation was conducted following difficulties encountered by a boat carrying the clandestine migrants, who were trying to reach the canary islands, around the southern parts of Dakhla, Moroccan authorities announced, thursday. Three of the rescued men whose nationalities are still not known were transfered to the hospital in Dakhla for medical treatment. 6.205 illegal migrants reached the spanish archipelago in 2007 against 31.859 in 2006. Reinforcement of border and maritime route surveillance in the northern african region particularly in the spanish enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla has affected the clandestine travel route, thus rendering clandestine travels even more dangerous.
