Arabic language students in Senegal have called on the Islamic Ummah to expand the borders of knowledge so that universal knowledge could be shared among member states of the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC). Making the call here on the eve of the 11th OIC summit, scheduled to take place from 13 to 14 March, Ibrahima Kamara, a student leader, said knowledge-sharing was top on the agenda for discussion by the leaders of member countries. “Why close the borders of knowledge? The prophet says in the Quran that “it is even necessary to travel all the way to China to acquire knowledge. Access to knowledge should not be limited only to Senegal but should go beyond borders”, Kamara commented. “Be they in Saudi Arabia, Qatar or elsewhere, students must have equal opportunities. They must be on the same footing as far as access to knowledge is concerned “, he added. Panapress.
