Ghana, SA, Tunisia, Nigeria qualify for African Women’s Championships

Ghana, South Africa, Tunisia and Nigeria have joined host Equatorial Guinea in the 6th African Women’s (football) Championship, due to be held 15-29 November. According to Africa’s soccer governing body, CAF, the three teams grabbed their spots following their victories in the second leg matches of the final qualifiers played on Saturday. In Accra, Ghana beat Cote d’Ivoire 3-0 to advance 4-1 on aggregate, while South Africa beat Zimbabwe 2-nil to qualify 6-1 on aggregate. Tunisia beat Algeria 2-1 at home – after a goalless draw in the first leg – to reach the finals of the competition, which is the female version of the Africa Cup of Nations. And Nigeria defeated visiting Namibia 10-1 in the capital city of Abuja to qualify 13-1 on aggregate. Three more slots are open for grabs, and will be filled after the results of the matches between DR Congo and Congo; Cameroon versus Tanzania and Mali versus Guinea. Panapress .
