The political situation and the human rights record in Mauritania made a net improvement during the past year, a report of the U S State Department reaching panapress Thursday noted. On the whole, the report noted the correct organisation of several electoral consultations, respect for physical integration and freedoms, which it noted was urgent to improve the public service of justice. The report also denounced cases of abuse, made by the police and the death, in the interior of the country, of a demonstrator, who was killed by the bullets of security forces during the protest march against the high cost of living. The report serves as a performance indicator to US authorities to award a certificate of “frequentability” to foreign countries and governments.
