The Freedom newspaper, a Gambian online newspaper, has not been accessed by readers for about three weeks now and readers are accusing the Gambia Telecommunication Company (GAMTEL) of blocking its websites. Panapress reports that the blockage may be in connection with a story it carried about GAMTEL. The paper on 9 March reported that GAMTEL was on the brink of total bankruptcy due to mismanagement. However, after the publication Gambians have been unable to access the online pa per based in the US. The paper is known for its criticism of President Yahya Jammeh’s regime. This is not the first time the Freedom newspaper has been blocked. Panapress.
