Zimbabwe Wednesday beat Botswana 1-0 in an international soccer friendly played in Gaborone. The visitors scored in the 78th minute through substitute striker Cuthbert Malajila, after thwarting incessant attacks from the home side. The goal drew protests from an estimated 20,000 Botswana supporters, who felt the ball had not crossed the line and the goalkeeper had been infringed. The match was one of a series Zimbabwe has lined up as it prepares for a gruelling 2010 World Cup finals qualifying campaign. The victory against Botswana is coach Valinhos’ first win since his engagement in January. Two weeks ago, his team lost 2-1 to South Africa in an away match. Panapress.
