The chairman of the International Federation of Human Rights (FIDH), Souhayr Belhassen here Tuesday called on France to respect the dignity of illegal migrants when implementing return proceedings. Speaking to journalists, Belhassen asked the French authorities to strongly observe the clauses of the international convention relating to migrants’laws. Belhassen, at the end of her three-day visit to the country where she made common causes with Fatima Mbaye, chairperson of the Muritanian Association of Human Rights and FIDH vice- chairperson, indicted by the French justice following her “opposition to deport an illegal migrant on 11 March at Charles De Gaulle airport.” She deplored the “incident” and called on the crew of Air France to respect human dignity of persons being deported.
